Légende
Boy crossing sweepers. Both adults and children of the poorest classes tended particular road crossings and, for payment, would sweep the road of dirt and horse droppings so that pedestrians could cross without getting their feet dirty. Engraving from "London Labour and the London Poor" by Henry Mayhew (London, 1861).
