Mrs Sophia Bryant

Mrs Sophia Bryant (born Willoch - 1850-1922) English mathematical scholar and teacher. In 1875 she joined the staff of the North London Collegiate School for Girls. She became assistant to Miss Buss, the founder of the school whom she succeeded as Headmistress in 1895. The first woman to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Science by London University. Campaigned for secondary education for women. Engraving from "The Graphic" (London, 2 August 1844).
