Thomas Lauder Brunton (1844-1916) Scottish physician born at Hilston, Roxburgh, Scotland. Associated with St Bartholomew's Hospital, London (1871-1904). Established pharmacology as a science. Studied the effect of drugs on circulation (1869-1870). Discovered the efficacy of amyl nitrite in the treatment of angina pectoris. Lithograph from "The Family Physician" (London, c1895).
