Thomas Cavendish (1560-1592) English circumnavigator. Commanded one of the vessels sent by Walter Raleigh to establish a colony in Virginia. In 1586-1588 completed the third circumnavigation. Engraving by Michiel van der Gucht (1660-1725) for Clarendon's "History".
