Francois I (1494-1547) King of France from 1515. At the Battle of Pavia, 24 February 1525, he was captured by the Spanish troops and imprisoned by Charles V. Here, under guard, he is writing to his mother Louise of Savoy informing her of the diastrous battle. 19th century chromolithograph.
