Thumbs Down by artist Will Crawford (1869-1944). Illustration shows a skeleton labelled 'Death' as a gladiator standing over a 'Sick Person' before giving the death stroke. The skeleton looks to the spectators seated in a section identified as 'Anti-Vivisectionist', who, holding their pets close, give the 'Thumbs Down' signal. The emblem on their banner shows a hand about to snuff the flame on a lamp labelled 'Progress'.
