Casket with scenes of courtly love (About 1180 AD); Copper, gilt, enamel Limoges, France Troubadour poets entertained the courts of Europe with love ballads. The front of this casket shows scenes of courtship from medieval love poetry. On the left, a troubadour serenades a dancing lady with a stringed instrument. On the right, a man kneels in submission to a lady who restrains him with a leash. A mysterious figure in black, holding a key and sword, separates the couples.
