The Plates from the Seventh Book of the De Humani Corporis Fabrica by Andreas Vesalius, (1514-1564) Plate 69 - this figure inasmuch as it concerns the portion of the brain remaining in the skull, also resembles the fourth and differs from the fifth in that we have freed the anterior aspect of the body constructed like a vault from the brain substance, reflecting it upwards and posteriorly so that its inferior surface might come into view, and that the vessel which is extended from the fourth sinus of the dural membrane, might be seen.
