El Cid is a 1961 historical epic film directed by Anthony Mann. It told the romanticized story of the Christian Castillian knight Don Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid) who fought in the North African Almoravides in the 11th century. Starring Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren it was based on a story by Fredric M. Frank.
