John Atkinson Grimshaw (1836-1893) Battersea Bridge at Night, oil on panel. Grimshaw's earliest paintings are indebted to the detailed Pre-Raphaelite style of J W Inchbold. From 1867 onwards, he came to specialise in moonlight scenes in Leeds and in other major English cities.
