Biblical story, Ratisbonnes conversion, Historical steel engraving from 1860. Alphonse Ratisbonne, also Marie-Alphonse Ratisbonne, was the co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Sion. Religion had never played a role in his life until he had an apparition of Mary in the church of St. Andrea delle Fratte in Rome on 20 January 1842. This experience led him to convert to Christianity, in 1860
