The state capital of Dresden is converting the stadium into a modern and multifunctional sports and event centre for competitive and popular sports. It will continue to be used primarily for athletics, American football and football. Once completed, the Heinz Steyer Stadium will be one of the few arenas in Germany that fulfils the requirements for national and international athletics championships. The stadium will have 5, 000 covered seats. The spectator capacity can be temporarily expanded to up to 15, 000 people using mobile stands in the curve areas.
