The power plant Mitte power station in Dresden was a fossil-fuelled combined heat and power plant that had existed since 1895 and was decommissioned in 1994 after 99 years. In 2016, a complete renovation of the main building and the demolition of the outbuildings was completed and the site reopened on 16 December 2016 as a cultural venue for operetta, musical and theatre performances. The power plant Mitte festival was celebrated for the seventh time under the motto We are colourful .
