The Gänseliesel fountain is a market and ornamental fountain on the market square in front of the Old Town Hall in the city centre of Göttingen in Lower Saxony. The fountain with a Gänseliesel as a fountain figure was erected in 1901 and is considered a landmark of the city. Colloquially, the whole fountain is known as the Gänseliesel. In Göttingen, it is an old custom for graduates to go to the Gänseliesel on the city's market square after the graduation ceremony. The graduates climb onto the stone frame of the fountain figure and bring flowers to the Gänseliesel and give her a symbolic kiss., Stadtbild Göttingen, Göttingen, Niedersachsen, Germany, Europe
