Weesenstein Castle rises on a rocky outcrop of nodular mica schist with quartzite deposits above the Müglitz valley around 3 kilometres south of Dohna in the Weesenstein district of the municipality of Müglitztal. For centuries, it served as the residence of local noble families, but also of the Wettin dynasty.
