Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (née Sheridan - 1808-1877) English poet, novelist and pamphleteer. She campaigned for woman's rights in marriage because of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her man. Heroine of the novel Diana of the Crossways by George Meredith (1885), which is based on Caroline's life.
