The Senftenberg Theatre Neue Bühne Senftenberg was founded on 21 October 1946 as the Senftenberg Municipal Theatre in the gymnasium of the Walther Rathenau school on the orders of the first district and town commander, Soviet Guard Colonel Ivan Demjanovich Soldatov. It subsequently gained a good reputation as a miners' theatre and was a springboard for many well-known actors. It received its current name in 1990 and was converted into a one-actor theatre in 1993. The magazine Theater heute voted it German Theatre of the Year in 2005, Senftenberg, Senftenberg, Brandenburg, Germany, Europe
