The puppet theatre collection of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD), one of the largest of its kind in the world, will open its doors at its new location on 7 September: the power plant Mitte will not only house 12, 000 marionettes, hand puppets and other theatre figures on an area of around 2, 600 square metres, but also entire stages and the extensive archive, a total of over 100, 000 objects, will find an appropriate place. In future, there will be two exhibitions that can be visited independently of each other: The permanent basic exhibition presents highlights from the collections such as puppets developed at the Weimar Bauhaus or the Hohnsteiner Kasper, the ancestor of many modern German hand puppet Punch and Judy figures.
