Attack of a Russian division. The 6th German army with roughly 280,000 soldiers under General Friedrich Paulus, which had pushed forward to Stalingrad at the end of August in 1942, were encircled by the Soviet army in November 1942. Although Hitler forbade to capitulate, Paulus capitulated on the 31st of January in 1943. Roughly 146,000 soldiers died, 90,000 came into captivity during the battle of Stalingrad, which was one of the most decisive ones.
