Clinton: applause for airlift pilot Gail Halvorsen
Légende
US President Bill Clinton (2nd f. l.), standing next to Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl (l), applauds for Gail Halvorsen, on 14 May 1998, during the festivities for the 50th anniversary of the airlift, in front of a Raisin Bomber type Douglas C-54 in Berlin-Tempelhof. During the Berlin Blockade, the pilot had thrown candy for children with his Douglas. Not only the former "airlift child" Mercedes Wild (r) was excited at the sweet gifts at that time. Several care packages from the time of the blockade are stacked on the right.
