Undated police picture of terrorist Karl-Heinz Dellwo.
German terrorists raided the German embassy on the 24th of April in 1975 and took twelve members of the embassy as hostages to force the liberation of 26 members of the Baader-Meinhof group. Since the demand was not fulfilled, they shot economic military attaché Andreas von Mirbach and secretary of embassy Heinz Hillegaard and fired explosive charges. The hostages could be recovered, partly injured. All terrorists were arrested. Lutz Taufer, Bernhard Roessner, Karl Heinz Dellwo and Hanna Krabbe were each sentenced to twice lifelong prison in 1977 in Düsseldorf.
