Some people were injured when the window panes of this Deutsche Bank branch in East Berlin broke during the great run on the bank on 01 July 1990. The monetary union which was executed on 01 July 1990 was a decisive step on the way to a reunion of the two German states. On the first day of the economic, monetary and social union, there was quite a rush on the new money; some 2.6 billion Deutsche Mark were paid out to GDR citizens in the first hours.
