A mobile radar installation of the US army observes the approach of the helicopters, which can be seen in the background, during the big winter manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army on the military training area Grafenwöhr on 5 February 1959. The highlight of the manoeuvre, in which around 60.000 soldiers participate, was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was observed from the "Feldherrenhügel" by around 40 NATO generals.
