Aerial photograph of the barren and shot to pieces manoeuvre area with rests of a village on the US military training area Grafenwöhr in Bavaria on 5 February 1959. At this time, Grafenwöhr was scene of the big winter manoeuvre of the US army. The highlight of the manoeuvre, in which around 60.000 soldiers participated, was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was observed from the "Feldherrenhügel" by around 40 NATO generals.
