Tanks of the US army in action during the big winter manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army on the military training area Grafenwöhr on 5 February 1959. The highlight of the manoeuvres, in which about 60.000 soldiers participated, was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was observed from the "Feldherrenhügel" by around 40 NATO generals.
