West Berlins at Sunday stroll at the Berlin Wall
Légende
On 27th august 1961 many West Berlin citizens pass the checkpoint on Friedrichstraße during their Sunday stroll along the barrage, which was recently built by the government. The checkpoint, which was known as Checkpoint Charlie later on, was secured by heavy Patton tanks of the US Army at that time. From 13th August 1961, the day of the building of the wall, until the fall of Berlin Wall on 9th November 1989 the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR were split by the 'iron curtain' between west and east.
