Munich police sergeant Anton Fliegerbauer is laid to rest at the Munich Waldfriedhof cemetery on 8 September 1972. The 32-year-old died in the night of 5 to 6 September, when security forces at the military airport Fürstenfeldbruck tried to rescue the nine Israeli hostages which were taken by Arabian terrorists of the group 'Black September' during the Summer Olympics in the Olympic village. The failed rescue operation caused 17 dead people. Nine Israeli athletes, a Munich police officer, and five terrorists died.
