Generals of Stalingrad: general Dimitri, lieutenant-general von Daniel, lieutenant-general Moritz von Drebber and lieutenant-general Otto Rinoldi. German Sixth Army, which pushed forward to Stalingrad in August 1942, was surrounded by the Soviet Army at the end of November 1942. Despite Hitler's prohibition of surrender, colonel-general Friedrich Paulus capitulated. The major part of his troops surrendered on 31st January 1943, the rest of the army followed the surrender on 2nd February 1943. 146,000 soldiers died and 90,000 went into captivity in the Battle of Stalingrad, which was one of the most decisive ones for the outcome of the war.
