Sassuolo, Este Ducal Palace, the Bacchus Gallery: “The meeting in Egypt of Proteus, king of Memphis, with Bacchus”. The faux tapestry depicting a landscape with classical ruins is lifted on the right by a putto. In the centre, engaged in obsequious ceremonies, Bacchus and Proteus, king of Memphis. On the left two characters observe the scene and on the right other characters carry a white horse. It is one of the forty-one panels with scenes painted by Jean Boulanger which narrate the events of Bacchus. Wall tempera painting, 1650 - 52.
