Bethlehem Hospital, Southwark, London. Bethlehem Royal Hospital, known as Bedlam, was a lunatic asylum founded in the Middle Ages. In 1812 it moved to a new site in Lambeth; the portico is by James Lewis (1811) and the dome by Sydney Smirke (1844). It has since moved to Beckenham, Kent.
