The Orangery, Panshanger, Hertfordshire, c1910. Exterior of the orangery at Panshanger, Hertfordshire, viewed across the flower gardens. A single-storey building, it has long windows to let in the light, with adjustable blinds. Above is an ornamental balcony with urns. Orangeries were used to house orange trees during the winter. Prior to demolition in 1953, Panshanger had been famous its house parties. Amongst the guests were Queen Victoria, Lord Melbourne and prime minister James Balfour. The grounds were laid out by Humphry Repton.
