Children play in the sand or paddle at the water's edge, while adults relax in deck chairs. The Tower Pier, a jetty for passenger boats on the River Thames, can be seen a little way upstream. The artificial beach was made just in front of the Tower of London, part of which can be seen on the right; the sand was eventually washed away.
