Légende
St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, Kent. The Abbey church was rebuilt c1090, though the north wall of the nave, seen here, was partly rebuilt in brick in 1539. Canterbury Cathedral can be seen in the distance. A monastery was founded on this site just outside Canterbury in 598 by St Augustine, sent by Pope Gregory to convert the English. The Normans replaced the Saxon monastic buildings.
