Ethelbert Tower, St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, Kent, 1996. A monastery was founded on this site just outside Canterbury in 598 by St Augustine. The Normans replaced the Saxon monastic buildings. The Ethelbert Tower was one of a pair of towers built at the west end of the abbey church in the 11th century: it stood in a damaged state until 1822.
