Deal Castle, Kent, 1997. View of Deal Castle with cannons pointing out to sea; the beach can be seen on the left. The castle was built as part of Henry VIII's scheme to defend the South Coast against invasion. It was completed in 1540, providing platforms on which to mount the new artillery and firearms.
