The water channel and reredorter, Castle Acre Priory, Norfolk, 1997. Monastic houses usually had sophisticated drainage systems. At Castle Acre Priory a watercourse was diverted beneath the kitchens and reredorter (containing the latrines) to flush away the waste. Castle Acre Priory was a Cluniac monastery founded in 1090.
