The dairy, Battle Abbey, East Sussex, 1998. The octagonal thatched dairy and a nearby icehouse at Battle Abbey were built in the early 19th century by Sir Godfrey Vassall Webster soon after inheriting the estate. Following the dissolution of the monasteries, Battle Abbey was converted into a country house. Dairies became fashionable facilities for country houses in the 18th century.
