Légende
Calshot Castle, Hampshire, 1995. The curtain wall was reduced in height in the 1770s, removing the heads of the gun embrazures. A cannon can be seen through one of the embrasures. At the same time the gatehouse range was enlarged. Calshot Castle was built in 1539-40 as an artillery fort to guard the entrance to Southampton Water against the threat of invasion.
