Keep and Palace, Old Sarum, Wiltshire, c1130, (1994). The huge earthwork of Old Sarum, near Salisbury, was chosen by the Normans as the site for a castle, palace and cathedral. In 1226 the cathedral was transferred to a new site in the valley, now known as Salisbury, and the castle gradually fell out of use.
