Trafalgar Square, Westminster, London, 2002. London's most famous square was originally the site of the royal stables until 1830 when the area was redeveloped as part of John Nash's Charing Cross Improvement Scheme. The square itself was designed by Charles Barry, who levelled the sloping area and had steps built leading into it. Surrounding the square are many prominent buildings including the National Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields, South Africa House and Admiralty Arch.
