Légende
'The Fairlop Oak, Hainault Forest', 1816. The oak tree near Ilford boasted a trunk 36 feet in circumference and was reputed to be nearly 2000 years old. In this representation it looks dead, and has possibly been struck by lightning. A landowner on horseback is on the left and a group of gypsies sit round a campfire on the right.
