Légende
Keys to the burying ground of Newgate Gaol, 18th century. The burying ground was the last home of the many prisoners who died of gaol fever or who committed suicide before their sentence could be served. Newgate Gaol was vast and forbidding. Few prisoners escaped, and many went on to transportation or hanging. Today the Old Bailey stands on the site.
