Légende
Vera Holme, 1909. WSPU chauffeur and horsewoman, sometimes known as 'jack'. Vera Holme was an orphan who had been educated in a French convent. Sylvia Pankhurst remembers her reputation for wildness and being 'rebuked by her elders for a lack of dignity'. In November 1911 Vera went to prison for assaulting a policeman - on horseback herself, she charged the mounted officer and snatched his horse's bridle. It took three policemen to rescue their colleague, arrest Vera and take her to the police station.
