Légende

'The Irish Balmoral, Or A Vision of 1869', 1868. With the Irish question firmly in the limelight, Punch looks to the future. In mid-April 1868, the Prince and Princess of Wales had set off on a visit to Ireland and this cartoon shows them enjoying their holiday in Ireland, in the same comfort and security that they would enjoy in Scotland. To the right is a small band of friendly and admiring Irish workers and, in the background, a Balmoral type castle to accommodate the Royal party. This is Punch's vision of future accord between the two countries which, it rather optimistically considers, might be achievable within a matter of months. From Punch, or the London Charivari, May 2, 1868.
