The Old, Old Tune, 1873. Prince Alfred serenades his bride to be. Her Russian ancestry is illustrated in the two bears on the crest beneath her windowsill. In July 1873, Queen Victoria gave her consent to the marriage proposed between her second son, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, and the Grand Duchess Maria, only daughter of the Emperor of Russia.
