Légende
'Between the Acts', 1879. This cartoon depicts Prince Jerome Napoleon, cousin of the late Emperor Louis Napoleon. He is imitating the pose of the first emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. Louis Napoleon's young son had died recently and so the cousin was, reluctantly, proposed as the representative of the Bonapartist party until such time as his own son, Prince Victor, should come of age. Jerome - known as 'Plon-plon' - was not very popular a figure in France. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 13, 1879.
