Vici!!!, 1882. In a companion cartoon to that issued on 9th September 1882, and which carries the caption 'Veni, Vidi', Sir Garnet Wolseley has brought the Egyptian rebel, Colonel Arabi, to his knees. Arabi had been behind an uprising in Egypt in protest at European influence in his country's affairs. Riots had broken out in Alexandria and some 2,000 Europeans died. In mid-September 1882, British troops launched an assault on Arabi's position. After a very short struggle, the Egyptians fled with Arabi leading the way back to Cairo. From "Punch, or the London Charivari", September 23, 1882.
