Cargo being loaded or unloaded from a ship, Royal Victoria Dock, Canning Town, London, c1930. The dock was built between 1850 and 1855 on an area of Plaistow Marshes. It was the first London dock to be built specifically to handle large steamships and the first to be connected to the national rail network.
