Apsley House, London, c1990-2010. Interior view of the principal staircase with a statue of Napoleon holding a figure of Victory by Antonio Canova (1757-1822). 'Napoleon as Mars the Peacemaker'. The statue was originally commissioned from the celebrated Italian sculptor by Napoleon himself. In 1816, after Napoleon's downfall, it was presented to the 1st Duke of Wellington by the Prince Regent (later George IV).
