Conisbrough Castle, 13th century, (c1960s).. Reconstruction drawing showing the castle as it may of looked in the 13th century. Built of magnesian limestone, it is the only example of its kind in Europe and was one of the inspirations for Sir Walter Scott's classic novel, Ivanhoe. A medieval fortification in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, England. The castle was initially built in the 11th century by William de Warenne, the Earl of Surrey, after the Norman conquest of England in 1066.
